In the midst of the world’s challenges, finding balance in our lives becomes an ongoing endeavor, especially for those juggling the demands of academia, work, and life. In our October Member Meeting, we took a moment to acknowledge this struggle and started with a mindfulness and grounding activity, skillfully guided by our DSoC President, Joselyne Garcia-Moreno.
Branta Lockett, our Secretary, then led us in a community-building exercise fostering connection. Together, we shared the concerns and joys that come with being doctoral students of color. It was a space for both reflection and celebration, recognizing the unique journey we’re all on.
The meeting wasn’t just about connecting on a personal level; we also delved into important updates. We discussed the progress of our DSoC fundraiser, a collective effort that embodies the strength of our community. Additionally, we shared valuable information about wellness resources at CU Denver and within the broader community, recognizing the need for support beyond academic pursuits.
Excitingly, we touched upon the application process for attending the 2024 AERA Annual Meeting in April, set to take place in Philadelphia. This opportunity promises to be a pivotal moment for networking, learning, and contributing to our fields.
As we navigate the challenges of academia and life, let’s continue to lean on each other for support. The Doctoral Students of Color community is here to uplift and empower one another, ensuring that each of us can thrive in our academic pursuits and beyond.
Stay tuned for more updates, and let’s look forward to the journeys that lie ahead.
